My notes
This movie struck me as a weird combination of everything being right, but it somehow not gelling for me. I really like Aronofsky as a director. The story of this film was well-constructed, with plot points introduced early that paid off, repeated visual themes, and flashbacks explaining character motivations that actually served the purpose. It featured an ending that literally tied everything together and showed character growth.
But for some reason, it didn’t work for me. All the pieces were there, yet it still took me three sittings to get through, and it’s not a long film. Oddly, it makes me want to watch it again to dig into why it didn’t work.
