Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

2026
Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn't remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter Parker he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see.

My notes

The film itself was fine. For a Spider-Man film it was pretty good. The plot got a bit cluttered balancing competing 'crossing the threshold' storylines and the villain reversal was obvious. But the action was competent and final scene fan service was nice.

The biggest negative - and it's a significant one - is the sheer volume of product placement in this movie. It's egregious. I largely structure my life to be ad-free paying for premium streaming, buying physical media, avoiding broadcast television and terrestrial radio, running ad and tracking blockers - because advertisers have long since demonstrated that they can't be trusted. The level of ad placements in this film distract from any claims of artistic merit and honestly hurt the plot. Parker is supposed to be a broke twenty-something struggling in one of the most expensive cities in the world, yet the level of product placement around him creates enough narrative dissonance to hurt the story.
