My notes

25th Anniversary Edition
First viewing since 2002

I was dubious about this Dolby Vision remaster on a black and white film originally shot on what felt like low budget stock, but it did really well at capturing the contrast.

In some ways, this film held up really well. The pacing is balls to the wall at first, and then drifts into a more even pace once the odds are established. The score is effective, and what I’m assuming was originally a stereo soundtrack was expertly modified into atmos.

From a technology perspective, it’s wild to think how trivial a lot of the tasks in the film are now that we have extensive deep learning models, though. Poor Max probably wouldn’t have put a drill through his brain.
