My notes

This one was kind of doomed from the start with a budget that was too thin to pull off appealing to the comic fans, honoring the original, and appealing to a broader audience.

Still, it was nice to see something shot on location, with real lights and actual contrast rather than actors working with folks cloaked in blue on a blue set and interactions being stitched together in post.

The plot is thin, the timing is incoherent (I am unsure if the plot took place over days or weeks, aside from the flashbacks). Still, this felt like the author had a story she wanted to tell, so the story (that is, the casual sequence of events and largely the motivation) made sense if only with often unearned reactions.

Perhaps my recent Spartacus Trifecta (book, film, tv show) biased me, but this film did seem to speed run the Spartacus arc.

Still, it's a great example of what I have been referring to as a Saturday afternoon film. Something to couch out to after morning chores.
