My notes

A lot of the points on this go wholly to the visuals. The film goes beyond art direction to establishing style and language that would ripple through video game culture for the subsequent decade. I think Mass Effect: Andromeda owes this one a beer.

This was my first time viewing the film outside of a poor 720p rip when it came out, so the 4k / Dolby Vision / Dolby Atmos remaster was a different world. The blacks contrasted with the bright whites and oranges were so ahead of the time for 2010 that a modern OLED might be the ideal viewing medium.

Storywise - this was probably the epitome of the legacy formula. I think if you scraped off the names and relaced Flynn with Luke, Clu with Kylo, Sam with Finn/Poe, and Quorra with Rey, you would have gotten the start to the sequel trilogy that was completely safe and exactly what the fans* wanted. That is, a completely safe and by-the-numbers "remember this" meets "the new version."

Face replacement tech was bad in 2010, it was not improved for the dolby remastering.

*here meaning the online vocal minority.
